Why become a PADI Freediver Instructor?

With a growing interest in adventure and wellness travel, freediving is becoming ever more popular and PADI has the immense brand recognition, educational system and consumer trust that will enable you to stand out in this market.

With that PADI brand recognition and trust also comes a responsibility to provide the quality training that your customers will expect.  That’s why our PADI Freediver Instructor Training courses are run over 8-9 days to enable you to properly develop your teaching skills and feel confident in your abilities.  There will be sufficient time to develop your strengths and overcome any hurdles.

One of the great things about the PADI Freediver courses is their proven educational system and you will learn how to use this system to offer clear, accessible, safe and fun freediving courses.

What to expect on our Freediver Instructor Course

The course will be a mixture of classroom, pool and open water sessions.  You will be introduced to the PADI Standards, as well as the philosophy and student-centered teaching approach.

We will review freediving physiology and psychology theory.  You’ll practice your student coaching techniques so that you can teach PADI Freediver courses that are low stress, safety oriented and learner-centered.

You will also learn the importance of group supervision and control from a risk management perspective.

During role-playing sessions and friendly, interactive workshops you will be able to put everything you have learned into practice.

It is expected that you will already have excellent freediving skills but you will have the opportunity to refine these skills to a role-model level during the instructor course, as well as meet the course performance requirements.

Our Freediver Instructor Course is extended beyond the minimum duration to ensure you get sufficient time to develop and practice in real-world teaching situations.  This builds confidence so that you feel prepared to teach your first courses.

Our usual PADI Freediver Instructor course is scheduled to run over 8 to 9 days depending on candidate numbers, plus 2 days for the optional EFR Instructor Course.

Your Instructor Trainer

Jo started her underwater life as a scuba diver and, as a PADI Course Director, she has been training scuba instructors since 2013.  She discovered freediving in 2016 and fell in love with the underwater world all over again.  She is a believer in the slow and steady method to progression as a freediver: with a focus on technique (and, of course, enjoyment) the numbers will take care of themselves.

She draws on her own development as a Freediver and Freediver Instructor, as well as her experience training hundreds of scuba instructors. With this background, she brings a wealth of knowledge and a clear, calm teaching style to her Instructor Training Courses.

EFR Instructor Course

We offer the EFR Instructor Course, which we will run over 2 days after each PADI Freediver Instructor Training course. Being an EFR Instructor will open more teaching opportunities as you share your life-saving skills with freedivers and non-freedivers.  We also include the PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider Specialty Instructor Course as part of this course.
