We’re excited to share that The Go Pro Family has officially become a PADI Eco Center.
This recognition is awarded to dive centers that demonstrate a clear commitment to marine conservation, sustainable diving practices, and continuous environmental improvement. For us, it represents both the work we’ve already done and the long-term commitment we’re making to protect the ocean we depend on every day.
Our Journey to Becoming a PADI Eco Center
Since we started working in the dive industry, we were conscious of the impact that diving operations can have on the marine environment. When designing and building our dive center we incorporated measures to reduce energy use and minimise waste wherever possible.
However, formally becoming a PADI Eco Center required us to go much further.
To qualify, we joined PADI AWARE Foundation and committed to the Adopt the Blue™ program, adopting a local dive site and contributing data to support marine protection efforts. We also organise regular Dive Against Debris® dives to remove and report marine litter.
Another key step was becoming a member of Green Fins, an initiative led internationally by The Reef-World Foundation. Perhaps naïvely, we though that this process would be pretty simple. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised in how thorough and meaningful the steps were. It involved a structured action plan designed to improve environmental performance across every aspect of our dive operation
It pushed us to examine areas we hadn’t previously considered and to set measurable goals for improvement.
Sustainable Diving Is Ongoing Work
Becoming a PADI Eco Center isn’t a one-time award. It requires continued reporting, accountability, and progress.
We know we’re not perfect. Sustainability is a journey, and there is always more to learn and improve. But we welcome the higher standards and expectations that come with this recognition.
